Formula for Successful Relationships: Honesty

Formula for Successful Relationships: Honesty

Honesty is one of the most important ingredients needed to establish positive relationships. I can say that over the years I have been completely honest with my wife. Out of this honesty has manifested an extreme level of trust. My wife trusts me and I trust her. My wife respects me and I respect her. Through this mutual level of trust and respect we have been empowered to experience a wonderful relationship and have given birth to 5 wonderful babies in the process.

If a man can be honest and sincere with women, and do so consistently, then he will be well prepared to navigate many of the challenges that present themselves in male-female relationships. Being honest with women, as a consistent practice, is essential to developing respect and trust within any given relationship.
The same principle can be applied to women. If a woman can be honest and sincere with men, and do so consistently, then she will be well prepared to navigate many of the challenges that present themselves in male-female relationships.

Being honest with men, as a consistent practice, is essential to developing respect and trust within any given relationship.
Honesty is something that should be practiced and applied to all areas of one’s life. This also includes our interactions over the internet. I recently wrote an article “Dealing with Negative People on the Internet” which addressed the common occurrence of cyber-bullying. My article on cyber-bullying is very relevant in that most people who bully others over the internet do so because they feel powerless in the real world. As an act of dishonesty such individuals project a “virtual” power by bullying others over the internet. Not only are such individuals misrepresenting themselves, and being dishonest with others, they are also being dishonest with themselves.

The most important person that you can be honest with is yourself. One cannot be honest with others if they are not honest with themselves in the first place. This is to say that an individual must first lie to themselves before they can lie to others. Lying to oneself is not an act of love. Lying to oneself is an act of self-hate. Conversely, being honest with oneself is an act of self-love. Self-love is a manifestation of self-worth. Self-worth is the foundation of all relationships. Therefore, being honest with oneself is fundamental to establishing positive relationships.
